New Location for Central Library ProjectLast modified: August 12, 2008 - 1:16 PM
Jerilderie Council is preparing the site for the Central Library construction at 41 Jerilderie Street “This property provides Council with the opportunity to carry out a new construction for the Library and also obtain ownership of one of the most significant Ned Kelly sites for future preservation,” says the Council General Manager Craig Moffitt, “the library building will be reminiscent of Banksi the previous building on the site, taking advantage of the dual street frontage for the different the activities proposed in the building. “The printery, adjacent to Banksi was to be used by Ned Kelly for his Jerilderie letter publication, is now in community hands and will be the subject of reconstruction using grant funds to be obtained for the project”. The new Central Library site offers a number of significant advantages.
This new site is fully supported by the NSW State Library and has been endorsed by the Federal Government’s Regional Partnerships program, as it provides a significant improvement for the project at a reduced cost. Council is pleased to be able to provide a much improved end product for the level of investment, securing ownership of the printery has also been a major achievement to ensure its preservation in the future.
